We are a non-profit volunteer based cat welfare group dedicated to feeding and caring for the street cats of Bol & Dubrovnik.

Nelly. How it all started….

There had been a small and dedicated group of people looking after the cats in Bol for many years, but our story starts in February 2020 at the start of lock down. A stray and slightly ragged looking cat turned up on our doorstep. Perhaps unsurprisingly after quite a lot of hastily purchased cat food, she came again the following day and that was it, we now had a cat. Whilst not feral, she was definitely not accustomed to people and the first trip to the vets was traumatic for all involved. Unfortunately during that visit, we discovered that the wound on her nose was in fact a tumour. For 7 months she happily roamed around the garden and defended it from all comers, however, by October the tumour had spread and she was having serious trouble eating and breathing so we asked the vet to put her to sleep. We called her Nelly.

How it’s all going…

So as of January 2024 we have sterilised over 300 of Bol’s cats and hopefully stabilised the population. New cats and kittens are appearing less often, although some people still feel it’s acceptable to come on holiday and abandon their cats here when they leave. Daily feeding for the two main colonies along the sea front happens twice a day and medical assistance is provided as and when needed to any cats that look sick or injured. As for us, well we currently have 7 rescue cats living at the house full time, plus at any other time we can have up to 5 further cats in residence, either recovering from surgery or receiving medical treatment. Our permanent residents (in the order they arrived) are Florence, Cindy, Kiki, Mila, Naomi & Monty. Sadly Jake & Charlie, the kittens we rescued in the summer of 2023, both died in February 2024.
